Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 4:36PM What would you pack for a mission trip?
Clothes. Comfortable shoes. Sunscreen? Maybe a journal, definitely your Bible. Oh, and your passport!
If that’s your list, you could probably make room for 110 colorful handmade blankets.
No? How about 200 wooden cars – they’re a lot smaller than the blankets!
This was the scene at our offices yesterday in the final flurry of packing for a mission trip to Honduras. A team of 60 people – a motivated group of Christian radio station listeners from South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Maine (and other areas) leaves tonight for Honduras.
They are carrying their hopes and expectations, tools and work clothes for the classroom building project, and VBS supplies. Included in that are several hundred wooden cars, all donated by our friends at Toys for God’s Kids, and beautiful blankets for the children in various projects, sewn by very dear women in Colorado.
And then there are the boxes of Spanish Bibles and New Testaments, an unexpected blessing given by a donor with a heart for God’s word. The team will have 260 to distribute among the projects and families they will visit.
Half of the team will work in Honduras' capital, Tegucigalpa. The rest will travel south to Choluteca to work with our child development centers there.
That's a lot of travel for a lot of people! Will you join us in praying for this team, that they arrive safely and without incident?
We are also praying that the hearts of the children they will serve will be tender for the Lord, and that the team members will get a glimpse of God's work in Honduras.
Check back here in the coming days for updates from the teams!
