If You Build It...

Yesterday's post revealed some of the practical projects we undertake to help our projects minister more effectively. But as our ministry is focused on developing children, we are compelled to assist with some fun projects, too!

Because honestly, what child development center would be complete without a playground?

Through the assistance of some generous partners and donors, this project in the Dominican Republic was able to build a better playground for their children. This small area now houses a basketball and volleyball court alongside the monkey bars and swing set.

Providing a safe place for children to play is a major component of our ministy in each Mission of Mercy country as you can see from these photos from Swaziland. Just look at the joy on these children's faces!

One of our largest projects to date is the Field Of Dreams in the Dominican Republic. It was a labor of love from start to finish.   Community members helped the workers dig the foundations.

The field was a point of interest for the entire area.

There is almost always a game going, organized or not!

While the field is adjacent to one of our projects, it serves several other projects in the area.

In addition to the basketball and volleyball court, the multipurpose center is big enough for large events, community functions, and the impromptu dance party...

Tune in next week for a list of ways you can help at Mission of Mercy projects. It may require a passport, but as many mission trip veterans will tell you, it is well worth the effort!

It's awesome to read about the work you're doing in the Dominican Republic. We went on our first mission trip to the DR last summer and it was a life-changing experience. The group we went with actually does baseball mission work -- bringing children to God thru the universal language of baseball. In fact, I saw on your website that you will have a group in the DR in June the same time we will be there. We are working in the Sosua area. Our work is very similar, and we would be extremely interested in talking with you about the field, playground, etc. that you have constructed. I think it would be an awesome opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss some of the challenges both our groups face. Can you please send me an e-mail if you are interested in talking further? Thank you and I really hope to speak with you soon!
