App,

Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 9:38PM We are thrilled to share Mission of Mercy’s new One Child app with you. Now you can take the impact of sponsorship with you wherever you go and engage in ministry in a whole new way!
And with our favorite feature -- writing a letter from your phone whenever the Spirit moves -- we are praying that your sponsored child will grow more encouraged as your ministry to him or her deepens.
You can access the letter-writing feature in the My Account section of the app's main menu. [Please note that this feature only works if you have registered for My Account through our website or on your device.]
Here are some tips to take full advantage of this great new feature:
Remember that this is a letter, not a text message! A short, "How are you? We are praying for you" is not sufficient for your sponsored child.
Instead, we recommend sharing as much as you would in a hand-written letter. Why? Because your sponsored child longs to hear from you. The more you write, the more encouragement they receive.
TIP: If typing on your phone feels cumbersome, use your computer to write a letter and email it to yourself. Then access your email from your phone or iPad and copy the text. You can paste it into the Send A Letter screen in a few seconds!
When you are finished with your letter and hit OK, the app allows you to attach one photo to your letter from your device's photo albums.
TIP: Only add the photo when you are finished writing because once you hit CHOOSE, it will send the e-letter automatically!
TIP: Be sure to mention why you are sending that particular photo in your letter, and name those who are in the photo with you. It may help to consider which photo you want to attach before you start writing, because once you choose the photo, you can't go back and add to your letter.
As always, keep our guidelines in mind with these photos – nothing immodest, inappropriate, or confusing for your sponsored child. The app will allow you to search your photo albums on your phone, so choose well!
Although you sent this letter electronically, please note that it is not sent directly to your sponsored child. That's another reason to consider this an electronic letter and not an email or text message, because it will not have the same promptness we associate with our own texts.
To assist our staff and projects, most of which are remote and do not have access to electricity or a computer, we treat all communications from sponsors equally. As a result, your letter’s journey may look something like this:
First, your email arrives in a special inbox at Mission of Mercy’s headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Then it is printed and screened for inappropriate material with all other written correspondence.
Next your letter is grouped with other sponsor letters according to project and country and shipped once a month to save costs.
Finally, once the letters arrive in your sponsored child’s country and go through Customs, they must be translated. It may take several weeks before your letter reaches your sponsored child’s project.
We hope this convenient send-a-letter feature will help you write your sponsored children on a regular basis!
