Hall Of Heroes

How do you maintain your inspiration? How do you remind yourself of why you do what you do? At Mission of Mercy, we try to surround ourselves with tangible reminders of why we’re in ministry… and our method for doing so stuck with a recent visitor to our offices.

Our dear friend and heart-partner Janelle Keith stopped by several weeks ago. Here’s what she experienced:

As soon as I entered the lobby it was peaceful. Quiet. I was anxious to see my friends. The friendly receptionist announced that there was a visitor. I didn’t feel out of place as I was greeted with open arms.

It has been my pleasure to visit the offices of Mission of Mercy in Colorado Springs. And after seeing their work spaces I understand why they do what they do. I understand their passion for changed lives, I get their vision for “One Child Matters.” I see God at work there.

I could tell you about the office equipment and furnishings, not to mention, the beautiful awe-inspiring mountain views seen from their conference room, but what struck me the most were the faces of love lining their halls. Your attention is immediately drawn to the sea of faces. Each perfectly placed portrait speaks of purpose. Their eyes are the windows to their souls spilling their need; their smiles gleam with hope.

The halls are lined with heroes to serve. Each pose engages your heart, each pair of eyes penetrates your soul. I thought to myself...Wow, how could you not be inspired when surrounded by this cloud of witnesses? For me, it was the most encouraging environment I had ever stepped foot in.

It was great to meet the staff. I was also struck by the phone center. It was so peaceful in there. There were three ladies neatly packed into the smallest of spaces, but they were the network, connecting sponsors with children. They were operators that helped to make sure the sponsors had given all of their information to make a sponsorship commitment. Where you would expect to see chaos there was calm.

I applaud the laser-focused mission-driven staff at Mission of Mercy. God is definitely working through each one. The hard-working and dedicated efforts are making a difference in the lives of children and families all around the world. That difference is revealed in the smiles that surround them. The impact is felt far and wide in the halls of their hearts. The results were displayed at every turn.

Dave, if you ever get the chance to visit, please take the time to do so. It's worth it. The staff at Mission of Mercy are so dedicated to the cause.
