Update On Our Projects In Haiti

The good news: Our projects in northern Haiti received little more than strong winds from Hurricane Tomas, which grazed over the island two weeks ago.

The bad news: Cholera continues to spread in the northern cities where we work (Cap Haitien, Limbe, Ouanaminthe, and Fort Liberte) as well as Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. Here is how we are praying for Haiti right now:

  • That the water filters at each of our projects continue to work
  • That parents are increasingly vigilant of the water they use to cook, clean, and brush teeth
  • That our staff is able to recognize families in need of help, and correct the misinformation that seems to be aiding the outbreak
  • For those in positions of authority to act quickly and compassionately
  • That necessary medical supplies are distributed and reach those who need them most
  • That those in the rural areas are able to treat those who are sick if medical personnel are not available

Our staff has received training and is now training others and visiting families in their homes to better ascertain the needs of the community. They are also training each household with preventative measures and action steps if cholera appears in their area.

Most of our Haiti projects are in rural areas in the north, which means they may have limited access to medical treatment. Our staff and those who have received this action training are our first line of education and defense. Please pray for their continued strength and endurance.

We appeal to our Father God, who is close to the brokenhearted and those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). The Lord is our hope and our stronghold. Please join us in interceding for the nation of Haiti.
